Background

Yellow NZ require their applications and services to be available to the widest possible audience. Making Yellow NZ available on Windows Phone is a continuation of Yellow’s forward thinking and proactive stance in the mobile space. Marker’s challenge was to develop an application that was not only appropriately functional but aesthetically consistent with the distinctive and original Windows Phone Metro user experience.

In addition, Windows Phone users in New Zealand required local business and people search app as there is locally specific content of this type via the integrated Bing services on the Windows Phone.

Strategy

We designed and developed the Yellow NZ application in partnership with the Yellow NZ mobile team. The application seamlessly integrates with the Yellow NZ web services at Yellow and makes use of native phone features such as location services and offline storage to make searching on the go as easy as possible. We employed a ‘clutter free’ approach to the design, removing all unnecessary elements with a focus on content and the task in hand, in the spirit of the overall Windows Phone user experience guidelines.

Successes

The application was launched into the Marketplace in early November 2010. It has remained since then a consistently featured, top free application in the New Zealand marketplace together with a 5 star rating. It’s become an essential application for any Windows Phone user living or travelling within New Zealand.
