Weather NZ is a weather app for New Zealand giving you accurate local weather forecasts. The app features live tiles that will let you see today and tomorrow’s weather right from your start screen.

Background

Marker Metro was commissioned by Marker Labs to build this app for the New Zealand marketplace as there was no locally focused apps to provide weather related information using live tiles.

Strategy

We decided early on to make use of live tiles to notify the user of the latest weather. With the new Windows Phone 7.5 background agent features, this allowed us to keep the tile updates very frequently and allow us to provide up to date information to the user without then having to even open the app.

Successes

Weather NZ has established itself as the #1 News and Weather app within the New Zealand marketplace.
